The Financial Secretary to move the following resolution:-

That this Council approves the carrying out of the works set out in the Schedule attached at an estimated cost of $4,416,407.84 and of the expenditure in the financial years 1940-41 and 1941-42 of the sums set out in columns 3 and 4 of the Schedule, the cost to be met from a future loan and meanwhile to be charged as advances from the surplus balances of the Colony pending the raising of a loan.

(3) RESOLVED pursuant to section 4 of the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance, 1931, as follows-

That the DUTIES ON LIQUORS set forth in the resolu- tion of the Legislative Council published as Government Notification No. 841 in the Gazette of 26th July, 1940, as amended by the resolution of the Legislative Council published as Government Notification No. 963 in the Gazette of 30th August, 1940, be revoked with effect from nine o'clock a.m. on Thursday, the sixteenth day of January, 1941, and that thereafter duty shall be payable on liquors at the following rates per gallon-

That the DUTIES ON HYDROCARBON OILS set forth in the Resolution of the Legislative Council published as Govern- ment Notification No. 841 in the Gazette of 26th July, 1940, as varied by Government Notification No. 1216 published in the Gazette of 7th November, 1940, be revoked with effect from nine o'clock a.m. on Thursday, the sixteenth day of January, 1941. and that thereafter duty shall be payable on hydrocarbon oils at the following rates per gallon

(1) on light oils

(2) on heavy oils to be used as fuel for any

heavy oil road vehicle

(3) on other hydrocarbon oils

(2) RESOLVED pursuant to sections 3 and 4 of the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance, 1931, with effect from nine o'clock a.m. on Thursday, the sixteenth day of January, 1941, as follows-

[s. 3.] APPLICATION OF ORDINANCE TO TABLE WATERS.

All the provisions of the Dutiable Commodities Ordin- ance, 1931, except Parts II, III and IV thereof, shall apply to table waters.

For the purposes of this resolution,

table waters

includes any aerated waters and any beverages sold or kept for sale in bottles, other than syrups or other liquids intended to be consumed only in a diluted form.

DUTY ON TABLE WATERS.

Duty shall be payable on table waters at twenty-four cents per gallon.

For the purposes of this resolution, twelve reputed pints or six reputed quarts shall be deemed to be one gallon.

Intoxicating liquors in this Part above the strength of 22 degrees under proof, for every degree above such strength, in addition to the duties specified above
